A Portland Ceramic Designer
Candy relics is a small porcelain manufacturer in Portland. They specialize in home goods and smoking paraphernalia. They hand-make their work to capture the beauty of yesterday in the form of a modern, dignified, object.
Working primarily in the medium of ceramics, they strive to harness the relics of the past and bring them forward, rejuvenated, into the candy sweetness of today. Their original logo, made by the founder of the business, represented that. The gumball machine was a small-town pharmacy staple, and the tiny skulls inside spoke to the relic like reverence that they give to these symbols.
 Our Solution
In line with the practices of the business itself, I treated the old logo with care and used its messaging to pull a new form forward. The design that I created holds the elements of the last identity with a new and striking appearance. The vintage nature of the brand has been translated into the new logo.
This new candy relics identity needed to be applied to several different mediums. A screen print for a ceramic matchbox, a soft enamel pin, a stamp for packaging, the website, and business cards. The new logo accomplishes each of the intended purposes very well while preserving the brand message and aesthetic of the previous identity.
